Bristol Boys and Girls Club Receive Thirteen Bikes from OGT New England
On Monday, March 9, volunteers for the Orphan Grain Train’s (OGT) New England Branch provided ten repaired bicycles and three new bikes and helmets to the Bristol Boys and Girls Club. They give the bikes to those in need as a part of the assistance programs they offer for educational, after school and sporting activities for children in the area. These events fit the OGT mission of helping others who are doing charitable work. Our volunteers inspect donated bikes to make sure they are in good, usable condition. Thank you, Tom Calvello for arranging for the donation of bikes to the club.
Other shipments have gone to missions in a number of countries e.g. Nicaragua, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Nepal, the Philippines, Ghana and the Republic of Georgia, Venezuela, Trinidad as well as Appalachia and hurricane relief for Puerto Rico, Florida and North Carolina and Tennessee. The Branch also helps those locally in New England, giving medical items that have been donated directly to individuals in need and through the visiting nurse and hospice care organizations of the area.
The effort is an Outreach Ministry of the Lutheran Church, and OGT is a 501(3)(C) charity affiliated with the church and supported locally by Holy Trinity Lutheran in Terryville and Immanuel Lutheran in Bristol and St. Johns in Waterbury. Orphan Grain Train is open to all who want to help others. The warehouse is located at 33 South Main St. in Terryville and is open Monday and Thursday from 9-12.
