On August 14, 2021 a 7.2 magnitude earthquake caused widespread destruction, injury, and death in Haiti. Orphan Grain Train promptly responded with air freight and shipping containers filled with much-needed aid and food. We are working with our recipients in Haiti to receive and distribute the aid.

How Has OGT Helped
Monday, August 16, 2021 – Norfolk Warehouse volunteers loaded a shipping container filled with 30,000 pounds of donated beans from Morrison Farms in Nebraska, medical equipment/supplies, hygiene supplies, children’s furnishings, 140 Christmas Gift Boxes, and other aid for Haiti.

Wednesday, August 18, 2021 – Wisconsin Branch volunteers in Westfield loaded a shipping container filled with 7,780 pounds canned corn, 40,392 Kids Against Hunger meals, tarps, water filters, buckets, bottled water, hygiene items, blankets, shoes, and diapers for Haiti.

Friday, August 20, 2021 – Norfolk Warehouse volunteers delivered medical supplies, tarps, water purifier system, generator and other supplies to our partner in Iowa which were then air lifted to Haiti.  Wisconsin Branch volunteers also delivered medical supplies, equipment, clothing and blankets to Iowa to be flown to Haiti.

Monday, August 23, 2021 – OGT purchased medical supplies that were mailed to a partner in Florida to be air lifted to Haiti.

What’s Ahead
At this time in Haiti, there is a lot of destruction but also problems with gangs controlling the roads and hijacking vehicles with supplies. We are wanting to see what our best options are for getting the aid to our recipients and onto those that are hurting and hungry.

How Can You Help Haiti?
First, we ask for prayers for our Haitian brothers and sisters and that medical supplies, aid and food are able to get to those in need.  OGT plans to be with Haiti for the long haul, however we can help, be that relief aid, food to fight hunger and materials to help rebuild.  These relief efforts will be costly with purchasing some of the needed aid and funding air freight and shipping costs to Haiti.
