Honduras
In the fall of 1998, Hurricane Mitch dropped record amounts of rainfall on Honduras, causing catastrophic flooding and mudslides. Over 6,500 people were killed and many thousands more left homeless. Over half of the crops in the country were destroyed.
In response, Orphan Grain Train purchased and shipped 50,000 lbs of Nebraska corn to Tegucigalpa, Honduras in early 1999.
