Hurricane Katrina Response Photos - 2006 - Page Eight

July 20, 2006 - A home in Isles de Jean Charles, Louisiana, a bayou community hard-hit by Hurricane Rita. Photos provided by Courtney Pellegrin-Howell.

This family received several pieces of furniture from a recent Orphan Grain Train relief shipment to Houma, La., including this sofa. All their old furniture had to be thrown out due to water damage. They have used up all the funds they received from FEMA for repairing their house, but as the following pictures show, there is much left to be done.

The kitchen cabinets have yet to be torn out, and are full of mold.

Another angle in the kitchen. The steps to the front of the house ended up in a field out back, and were discovered via boat.

The house is four feet off the ground and was filled with 2 1/2 feet of water for 14 days.

A look at the half-repaired master bedroom.
