Hurricane Katrina Response Photos - 2005

Nov. 9, 2005 - When the convoy arrived at Metairie, La., and Biloxi, Miss., Orphan Grain Train volunteer drivers and local volunteers unloaded the contents of each truck. After the trucks were unloaded the shipping containers were lowered to the ground by a special trailer, allowing them to be used for on-site storage.

Volunteers use large beams to level the storage units as they are put into place.

Volunteers catch their breath after unloading two semi-loads of relief supplies at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Biloxi. Later the supplies were secured in steel shipping containers to be distributed as needed.

Homes left standing by Katrina usually sport blue tarped roofs as they await re-shingling. Such homes dot the whole Katrina-affected area for hundreds of miles.
